[摘要]: With Narendra Modi’s leadership in India’s 2014 election campaign, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won nearly
every third vote in the country, while the Congress Party (INC) took only 19%. It was an historic win for the BJP with with
282 seats, an absolute majority, and a total of 336 seats for the BJP-led NDA coalition in the Lok Sabha.
What explains Modi’s rise? Dr. Semetko discusses the strategic framing of Narendra Modi, his affinity for Twitter and
technology, his approach to governance, and what we can expect from India-China relations given his leadership.
She draws on India’s first social media focused election study to discuss the impact of the campaign, a project she
launched and funded with a team of young Indian scholars. The project also aims to build a generation of students
with the analytical skills to manage innovative campaigns--political, corporate, international, government, non-profit and NGO led campaigns.
